Sophie Nobler is a filmmaker and 1st AD. Her work explores the relationship between childhood and motherhood; the tensions between love, responsibility, and guilt in her work.
Sophie began acting onstage in New York at Ensemble Studio Theater and New York City Players, learning from playwrights Richard Maxwell and Jackie Sibbles Dreary. She quickly gained an interest in film, and began working in Documentary managing archives at Moxie Firecracker Films and other award winning docs like Obit and Lioness. In Los Angeles she went on to direct, write, and produce indie films like the WhoHaha premiered Woman In The Wall and PESTLE, which won her the Best First Time Director award at the Berlin Indie Film Festival and the Best Short Form Short Film at the Female Feedback Film Festival (FFF).
After competing her MA in Directing at Met Film School Berlin, Sophie learned the importance of managing a set, and began working as an independent 1st AD in the Berlin Commercial world. As a 1st AD, she combines her reverence for directorial vision with innate leadership skills, functioning as a calm and sharp middleman between production, client, and creativity on set. From her previous experience in independent film, she understands the importance of time, resources, and her ability to bring a realistic idea to life while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of her cast and crew.
